Reassessing the Textual Tradition of the Book of Judith
Description of the Project
The project “Reassessing the Textual Tradition of the Book of Judith” aims to reevaluate the textual history of the Book of Judith. Previous research has primarily focused on reconstructing the original version of the text. This project focuses on the versions of the book that have been handed down in different languages as works on their own, with regard to their textual history, respective recensions and translation techniques. Using selected manuscripts from the Greek, Latin, Syriac, and medieval Hebrew textual traditions, key junctures in the textual history of the Book of Judith will be examined in this way.
In collaboration with the Center for Philology and Digitality (ZPD), the Chair of Old Testament Studies is creating a digital synopsis that presents the various manuscripts in diplomatic form, thus enabling new insights into the multifaceted textual tradition of the Book of Judith.
