With a degree in theology, you have numerous and varied career opportunities:
The most obvious professional fields are probably:
- Teaching at primary school, secondary school, intermediate school and grammar school
- Priesthood
- Deacon, pastoral counsellor, parish counsellor
However, the qualifications you gain in theology will open up many more, perhaps even unexpected, career paths:
- Media and culture: publishing, journalism, information and documentation services, libraries, theatres, museums and archives, film studies and production, etc.
- Press and public relations, communication and marketing
- Speakers in committee and association work
- International relations
- Further training for managers, coaching
- Pastoral care and palliative care
- Social institutions

Study Info Day
Meet us at the University of Würzburg's Study Info Day on 4 March 2026 from 8:00 - 13:00!
In an info presentation you will find out what you actually study when you study theology. (Spoiler: Some say it's the most beautiful subject in the world!)
At our information stand you will find information material and can ask us anything about studying theology.
You just want to have a look? No problem; we have a few interactive offers: our students will tell you about their studies in video clips, you can browse through our library to see where theology is everywhere, or you can simply take a jelly baby and a few flyers with you.

Study taster sessions from 27 May to 3 July 2026
For five weeks around Whitsun, you can explore the university (including theology) on your own. During the study taster sessions, you can "get a taste" of the regular lectures and seminars without any obligation and without pre-registration. Gain insights into our subjects and everyday student life in the centre of Würzburg.

Tandem days:
Join a small group of students from your chosen subject at university for a day. You will attend lectures and seminars together, meet students and lecturers, have lunch together in the canteen and get to know everyday life at university. Your tandem partners will answer all your questions about university and studying.

The next Tandem Days will take place during the Bavarian Whitsun holidays from 27.05. to 05.06.2026.

At studylive, you have the opportunity to get a taste of a student's everyday life at university. You accompany them to university for one or more days and find out everything you need to know about your chosen subject and student life at first hand.
The lecture period of the summer semester 2026 runs from 13 April 2025 to 17 July 2026!
